The Clergy Corner as taken from the 1/19/25 bulletin:I was recently speaking with a fallen away Catholic who was telling me that going to Church on Sundays and Holy Days was too big of a commitment. So, I suggested that we do a little math to figure out just how much of a commitment it is. If we assume that a person is at Mass for one hour on Sunday and on Holy Days that adds up to 58 hours a year in Church. If there are 8,760 hours in a year then that means only 0.662% of your year would be spent in Mass. Compare this to the average American who spends 4.5 hours a day on their phone and three hours a day watching television. So, if we believe that God the Father created the heavens and the earth, that He gave us the opportunity at life and love, that Jesus Christ died for our sins and has offered us the chance of salvation through Him. Then, 58 hours per year in prayer, worship and communion with our heavenly Father should be the absolute bare minimum that we can dedicate to help improve our relationship with Jesus as well the relationship with each other. We are truly blessed at our parish to have so many opportunities to spend time with Jesus. For example, in addition to our Sunday Mass schedule, we have a daily Mass at 6:45 AM Monday through Friday. Our parish has exposition of the Blessed Sacrament every Friday immediately following 6:45 AM Mass including the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 4:15 PM, and benediction at 4:45 PM. I would encourage everyone to take advantage of these wonderful opportunities, and to consider inviting a friend or family member who perhaps hasn’t attended Church in a while. In planting this small seed, we may be amazed at what great things might grow from their relationship with God.
