Parish of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton
How are we promoting the Eucharistic Revival?
Try to arrive at Mass on time: It can be disruptive to others if we walk into Mass after it has begun.
Try not to use any technology: During Mass is not the time for the use of phones, cameras, or any other type of electronic devises.
Try to keep quiet. If you need to say something during Mass do so quietly and discreetly so as not to disturb those around you.
Refrain from eating or drinking: Eating or drinking in Church is not only disrespectful, but it can also be a distraction to others around you. In addition, if you are planning to receive the Eucharist at Communion, we are required to fast for one hour prior.
Sit, stand, and kneel: Unless it’s due to a physical limitation, we should sit, stand, and kneel at the appropriate times during Mass.
Extending of our hands during the “Lord’s prayer” (the “Our Father”). The extending of our hands is referred to by the Church as the Orans posture. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal tells us that this gesture is reserved to priests only. ((not even deacons) are to assume this posture). Therefore, laity should refrain from this practice.
Leaving Mass early: We are to remain in our pews at the conclusion of Mass until the clergy have processed out of the Church.
By implementing these basic practices, we can enhance not only our Mass experience, but also the Mass experiences of those around us.
